HP announced this week that they will be recalling an undisclosed amount of HP laptops due to the risk of batteries overheating, catching fire and pose burn hazards.

Affected computers were sold from March 2013 to August 2015 and include six different models and eight different batteries: HP, Compaq, HP Probook, HP Envy, Compaq Presario and HP Pavillion.

To check if you have a defective device, you can download a utility created by HP or you can manually check your battery by looking for any of these sequences in the battery’s barcode:

  • 6BZLU
  • 6CGFK
  • 6CGFQ
  • 6CZMB
  • 6DEMA
  • 6DEMH
  • 6DGAL
  • 6EBVA

Should you have a recalled battery, stop using it immediately and connect your device to an external power source. You will also need to fill out this form to verify that you have a defective battery. Once it is confirmed your battery is defective, HP will send you a free replacement.
